Reassess Your 401(k) in 2018

by Ric Lager | Jan 5, 2018 | 401k Advice, Blog, Educational | 0 comments

Right now is probably the best time in your working career to take the time to reassess the investment performance in your Minnesota company 401(k) retirement plan account.

With a long list of uncertain political and financial events dominating the worldwide headlines, the timing is perfect for you to make an effort to preserve the last several years of your stock and bond market investment gains.

The vast majority of individuals try the “do-it-yourself” approach in regard to the investment management of their company 401(k) retirement plan accounts.

Some individual investors are sophisticated and experienced enough to manage their own money. Most individual investors don’t have the natural ability, time, experience, and comfort level in making your own retirement plan investment decisions.

An independent, third-party, fiduciary investment advisor can provide you with a game plan to protect your company 401(k) retirement plan principal in the early stages of the next great stock market decline.

This kind of company 401(k) investment advisor has nothing to “sell.” A fiduciary investment advisor is legally obligated to care as much as you do about the money in your company 401(k) retirement plan account.

Make sure that the investment advisor is experienced in providing investment advice to individual company 401(k) retirement plan participants. This advisor should be able to provide you with an investment management game plan for the mutual funds in your company retirement plan menu.

The historic stock market run of the last nine years will run out of upward momentum at some point. For that reason, the traditional “buy-and-hold” retirement plan investment strategy will disappoint most individual company 401(k) retirement plan investors.

In 2018, you can employ a company 401(k) retirement plan investment strategy that is designed for the stock markets of today’s real world.
