Smarter DIY 401(k) Decisions With AI

by Ric Lager | Jan 31, 2026 | 401k Advice, Blog, Educational | 0 comments

AI is great at explaining investing concepts.
General information on basic financial fundamentals.
Budgeting, credit score, and savings goals.

When it comes to your actual 401(k) menu.
The menu of 401(k) mutual funds forced on you.

It’s guessing.
With a pretty interface.

This article breaks down the gap between AI theory and 401(k) reality.
How to build a smarter, more precise 401(k) mutual fund picks.
Using the mutual funds available to you.

Most AI 401(k) searches.
Look for better mutual fund picks.
Without hiring a third-party investment advisor.

It’s a fair question.

“Can AI help me build a smarter 401(k) mutual fund portfolio on my own?”

You want more efficiency and control.
You want to understand the logic behind every 401(k) mutual fund you own.

But the AI tools can only provide broad, generic recommendations.
None of which match the actual mutual funds found in your 401(k).

AI can explain Diversification.
Rebalancing and Asset Allocation.

But AI can’t see your actual 401(k) mutual fund menu.
Employer?specific, menu?specific, and constraint?specific.

It can’t compare the Large Cap Growth versus the Target?date fund.
It can’t compare the S&P 500 index fund versus the bond fund.
It can’t tell whether the SDBA window is worth using.

You can’t improve your 401(k) mutual fund decisions.
Based on incomplete information.
Not specific to your 401(k) mutual fund menu.

There are better 401(k) mutual funds available.
But don’t count on AI to identify them.
And explain in a way you completely understand.

Want a precise, DIY-friendly mutual fund strategy built around your 401(k)?

I can help you create a 401(k) mutual fund selection plan.
