I wrote this article on April 10th, 2012 for my Golden Valley Patch Blog.

There is a very old stock market adage that states, “Sell in May, and go away.”

The way the stock markets have been acting over the last couple of weeks, I think now may be a good time to pay attention to that stock market wisdom…only move that advice up about one month.

The “easy money” has already been made in this stock market rally that began last October. Now is the time to really pay close attention to what you own in your Minnesota company retirement plan account.

Your quarterly 401(k) company retirement plan account statement is a few days away from hitting your mailbox. Look at every mutual fund that you currently own on your company retirement plan menu. Make very sure that you completely understand what kind of mutual fund you are invested in now.

Also pay very close attention to how much of your company retirement plan account is invested in the stock markets now.
